Big Monday Recap: UConn vs UNC
Marked off on my calendar as one of the most important games on UConn's schedule (second only maybe to the home and home series vs Rutgers), this game lived up to all the hype. It reminded fans that March isn't the only time college basketball is fun.
#1 vs #3 is certainly a game with a feasible chance of an upset and in the first half it certainly looked as if that's exactly what would happen. UNC came out of the gate strong with an 8-0 run that quieted down a capacity crowd in Hartford.
It took nearly 5 minutes for UConn to get a rebound by which NC had 7 and 2 second chance shots. Charde Houston, after starting just her 5Th game this season, had been relegated to the bench because of lack of effort. She was once again in Geno's proverbial dog house. Tina Charles remained on the court mostly because without aching Brittany Hunter there was a lack of depth at the post position.
All this resulted in an 11 point galf time lead for the Tar Heels. A lead that could have been substantially bigger if it were not for the hot shooting of Renee Montgomery who was 4/6 from behind the arc.
The second half started with the run that you knew the #1 team in the country was bound to make. The run was 15-3 and it gave the Huskies their first lead of the night.
It was any body's game from there and both teams knew it. The Huskies built a 65-59 lead before the Tar Heels rattled off 10 straight. But UConn wasn't finished yet and they responded with a 9-0 run to give themselves a 74-69 lead. Latoya Pringle would cut the deficit to 3 at the 3:27 mark but that would be the last basket UNC scored.
During the second half Charde Houston redeemed herself scoring a season high 15 points. A performance that everyone involved with UConn hopes is the start of her season turning around. Sh ewent on to say that it was Having Mel Thomas (who is out for the season with a torn acl) sitting behind the bench yelling at her to play to her potential inspired her to that performance.
The Huskies ended the game on a a barrage of free throws. The ladies of Uconn seemed determined to come out victorious in the first real test since losing Thomas to her injuries. Thomas is the second starter to go down this season so UConn's depth is not what it used to be.
It was a hard fought game that truly had a final four feeling to it. Two Teams. Two Hall of Fame coaches. Two freshman point guards. Two All American post players. This was about as good a matchup as one could find at any point in the season.
Game Notes:
-The crowd of 10,167 marks the first women’s basketball sellout at Gampel Pavilion since Jan. 27, 2007 vs. Notre Dame.
-UConn senior Mel Thomas was honored prior to the game for scoring her 1,000th career point on Dec. 5 vs. Virginia.
-UConn improves to 177-9 when playing as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team
-UConn junior Renee Montgomery became the 30th player in UConn history to register 1,000 career points

Successful Relationships in College….I think not!!
When entering a relationship, what is it that you see in the other person? Is it there personality? Is it the way they make you laugh and smile. Is it the way they hold you so tightly in your arms? Is it the way you can be yourself and talk to that person about any and everything without them judging you or looking at you different or weird? Or is it because that person is “sexy as hell” or “fine as ever” or “p.h.a.t. as ****”?
Through experience and from what I’ve seen, the art of relationships while in college is DEAD. Both partners get into it thinking it’s going to be so great and perfect.
But after the trust issues, jealousy, flirting, arguments, and more, a thing called REALITY kicks in.
Is there such thing as the perfect relationship……HELL NO!
College is an experience of its own in which many will never forget. It is where we make stupid mistakes, where we learn from them, where we grow past them, and become even better people than before.
It is where you also learn who YOU really are, who your REAL friends really are, and what your place is in society, and throughout the campus community.
Who‘s to blame for the break up? Why are things so difficult? Why can’t the relationship last?
As the saying goes, “It’s easier said than done” and relationships in college fit in with that category without a doubt.
Being in a relationship while in college is a task of its own. Having to worry about your classes, a job, ones social life, athletics, and more is already a lot to handle and also stressful at times, and being in a relationship may add to it.
What are the problems you ask, and why are your friends or maybe even you single?
Tune in next week to find out………………

Lebron has the Sole of a Yankee
But the King ( or prince) has I Love New York surrounding him. He's good friends with the King of New York (Jay-Z), is so much of a Yankee fan that he even wore a Yankee fitted while in the stands at last years Indians vs Yankees playoff game. Oh and word has it, that's his favorite city. Oh and did I mention he's a free agent at the end of the year?????
Well for the second time, Nike and Lebron have dropped a New York themed shoe. The first time was only 225 pairs at a pop up Nike Store in Soho of the Lebron Zoom IV. This time around it's a Yankee inspired (pinstripes and all) Lebron Zoom V.

Maybe it's all conspiracy theory, or Nike knows that the New York market is one (if not) the biggest for selling kicks. Oh and the Yankees sell more merchandise than any other baseball franchise. So they're going after that $$$$$$$$. Smart move Nike Marketing.
What do you think????,
Mr. Talented
I'm feeling them though, especially the "Fresh for 08 Suckers!" ..

Political Mess....."Who Let the Dogs Out"
So with that here are two different clips this week.
1. Barack was asked if he thought "Bill Clinton was the first Black President?"
I like his response because first he answers the question, then he closes it with on a lighter side, joking at the end.
2. WTF was Mitt Romney thinking. Well, he thought he was being cool. He wasn't, but it sure is funny to see. 2 things to listen to:
a. "Who Let the Dogs out, woof woof"
b. While looking at a toddler, "I see you got your bling bling on"
Hilarious....Priceless
oh these candidates....
Mr. Talented
p.s.
John McCain voted against Martin Luther King Day as a National Holiday... not once, not twice, BUT THREE TIMES ... Damn
Rick Ross on the Sean Taylor incident
So, as I was checking through the aftermath of the Sean Taylor death (R.I.P. so tragic)... I came across an article in which Rick Ross chimed in on the subject.
I respect Rick Ross alot, and his presence makes me concur with lots of statements that he makes.
During the discussion, comes his stance on how Sean Taylor, because of previous situations, was underprepared for the situation. As Ross states:
"You know he had to take a little heat for the past situation and he felt like he couldn't have that in his possession."
In essence he's almost blaming Taylor's inability to use "tools" necessary to defend himself and his family because of the media scrutiny th
at came while he had the necessary "tools".My take is that Rick Ross is speaking on the naivety of the media, fans, and public about people that are from or live in certain places.
The incident comes from the first time Taylor defended himself from a "robbery" and the "tool" that was found at that moment.
So the same thing he was once chastised for having, could've saved his life.
I think it was a death that could have been avoided by many different measures, however, we don't know Taylor's full life and what people saw about him to try and get to him in particular. But, Stars/Athletes/Entertainers are like everyone else and need ways to protect themselves against others that try to "touch" them. As Ross says:
"You know he had the previous charges and whatever and he couldn't have one (a gun). That's just it though, you got to protect your life and your family. Anybody out here reading this...I'm sorry that's just my stance on it."But what do you think.???
are athletes who keep "tools" to protect themselves in the wrong????

Scoring Machine
He's Scoring, Scoring, Scoring...da da.. he's a Scoring Machine...He's almost automatic, especially from 3pt.
His scoring to minutes ratio is almost one to one.
He's a beast and a walk on freshman. Who might you ask??
Conner Teahan
The Freshman from the number 2 Kansas Jayhawks. He's like a mini celeb now, he has 4 Facebook groups ( my favorite Your Damn Straight I Love Conner Teahan!), and has clips of him scoring on youtube.
At one point he was shooting 80% from behind the arc (8-10) and my favorite stat in 44 minutes he had 45 points.
don't believe me, here's what the coach and media have to say about him
Teammates won't even play H-O-R-S-E with him.
Imagine when he starts gettin real minutes...
We'll have to change his nickname to "Buckets"

Me watching my favorite Women
No not Alicia Keys, or Laura London ( that will come later aka "there's a meeting in my bedroom, bedroom, bedroom)...
I am talking about the Lady Terrapins of The University of Maryland.
I went to their Historic (first home win against duke in ten years and my first wms game there) win against the Lady Blue Devils of Duke.
I loved it.
And DAMN... Marissa Coleman came to ball...she did it all, post moves, played the point, hitting 3's and was real smooth all game. Like George Gervin Smooth, like Baby Oil smooth. She dropped 30 on them.
The game was great and the atmosphere in the arena was electric. They really gave the fans a great time....
They use a lot of video of the team to motivate the crowd and it worked like a charm.
Here are the pics
I think I'll go to another game very soon....

Big Monday recap: Duke vs. Maryland
This rematch of the 2006 championship game (which the Terps won in overtime) looked as if it would be a route as the Terrapins came out the gate with a lot of energy and jumped out to a big lead before Duke battled back with a run of their own. Maryland ended the first half with and 11 point lead.
At the start of the second half after being down 13 Duke used a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 47-43. Maryland responded by extending the lead back to 9 but couldn't put the game away. The Blue devils were resilient though. They kept battling and eventually tied the score at 65 on 7-0 flurry.
There were 7 minutes left. All of the sudden this was anybody's game.
Then the Maryland Terrapins kicked back into gear. They closed the game on a 17-2 run.
Marissa Coleman tied a career high with 30 pts as the No.4 Terps came away with the 85-70 win over the No.13 Blue Devils. The junior guard seemed to be on a mission to make sure her senior teammates went out with this win, leaving even her coach a little in awe.
Krisit Toliver scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and added 6 assists. Crystal Langhorne added 16 points and 7 boards in a game where the Terps sometimes looked bored with big leads.
Jasmine Thomas and Wanisha Smith netted 17 points a piece for Duke who saw a 8 game winning streak snapped.
The Blue Devils fought valiantly but in the end poor free throw shooting and a lack of execution down the stretch proved detrimental.
Overall the game was a great one for fans to watch and a great start to a series of 8 potentially exciting Big Monday games on ESPN.
Next up is the much anticipated match up between Connecticut and North Carolina.
*Game Notes*
-The rivalry match up drew a crowd of 15,531. That's the 5th largest crowd in ACC history.
- Maryland's victory was its first against Duke since the 2005-2006 national championship game victory and the first regular-season win since Feb. 3, 2000. It was the first home win against Duke since Jan. 30, 1998.
-With nine rebounds, Laura Harper moved into fifth place all-time at Maryland with 724, passing Christy Winters.
