So, you know how I"m about my GREEN$$$$
planetgreen.com just put out their list of Top 5 Green Colleges and I think it's a cool thing to rank up... I mean if everyone is supposed to be going green, Colleges and Universities should be too....
So here is their write up...
"Whether you're heading off to college soon yourself or you've got a child about to make the big move, considering which colleges are green is important these days. Dorm rooms tend to be wasteland in many colleges and you might be concerned with surrounding yourself or your loved one with more environmentally-friendly-minded individuals during this crucial time in life. Well, the good news is that there are a lot of colleges becoming more and more green these days. Here are five that have stood out to me:
Pitzer College, Claremont, California.
Pitzer has made some incredible green changes across the board, but the college is especially getting noticed these days for their green dorm rooms (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/09/green_your_dorm.php). On top of that, they've got a bike program and you can bet it doesn’t stop there. Pitzer is clearly concerned with moving forward with the green movement and I’m behind it.
College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine.
Human Ecology is the only subject you can major in here at this small college. And when they say human ecology, what they mean is 'the study of our relationship with the environment.' That’s the one and only subject to study at this college and their college runs its campus in an eco-friendly way, too...of course.
Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington.
Not only is Olympia, Washington a great place to discover so many natural beauties of this country, but this college is also a beacon for those seeking something refreshingly green. They have an organic farm center. They use recycled paper. They use natural cleaning products. The list goes on and that's why Evergreen makes the cut.
Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio.
This liberal arts school has got a car-sharing program. They have energy monitors in their dorm rooms. Oh yeah and 100% eco-friendly cleaning products, too.
Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts.
Leave it to some of the country's finest minds to engineer a green Ivy League school. Harvard has got a green cleaning service, organic food in its cafeteria, their campus conserves energy at every corner, etc."
Shout out to the staff at Pitzer College for coming in at #1
So one of my goals for the semester is to visit Colleges that are making strides toward saving the Planet....
One world...
